Hiking, camping and 4WD in the Mojave Desert, Death Valley and Eastern Sierra

These days I'm driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser on desert dirt roads instead of the 10-ton bicycle of all those years past–and then hiking from there. Things change!

I park the FJ at Lobdell Lake and begin my hike up to Mount Patterson from here

This is my first time here. I've read that parts of the road ahead are difficult, and I want to get some hiking miles in anyway, so this seems to be a good place to park. Perhaps I'll even camp here after I've finished my hike, who knows.
