Hiking, camping and 4WD in the Mojave Desert, Death Valley and Eastern Sierra

These days I'm driving a Toyota FJ Cruiser on desert dirt roads instead of the 10-ton bicycle of all those years past–and then hiking from there. Things change!

Heading straight toward Button Mountain now, on the lookout for a potential campsite

The surface of the road here is hard-packed, apparently largely crushed lava rock. Bicycling along here a few years ago was easy (and scenic).
